Mobile phones and driving employer provided vehicles

Do your employees drive a company vehicle? New penalties are now in place across Queensland when using mobile phones. So, what exactly does this mean and is there anything you should be doing as an employer?

Any person caught touching their mobile phone while driving will face $1,000 fine and four demerit points. Double demerits apply for a second offense within 12 months. For more information about the new laws, visit the Queensland Government website.

Although employees are responsible for following the road rules while driving, communicating these changes can serve as a friendly reminder. Make sure you reinforce responsible driving expectations in line with your company vehicle policy, including the use of mobile phones.
